Besides dental implants, there are two common options to replace missing teeth: a removable partial denture or a fixed bridge.
A partial denture is a removable false tooth (or teeth) option, while a dental bridge is a fixed solution that’s typically used when fewer teeth need to be replaced or when the missing teeth are on one side of the mouth. Bridges are generally made with a precious metal base, and for a more natural appearance, porcelain is often bonded to the base. In some cases, non-precious metals may be used to lower costs.
Replacing missing teeth is important for several reasons. Appearance is one factor, but more importantly, the gap left by a missing tooth can put additional strain on the surrounding teeth. A gap can also affect your bite, as neighboring teeth may lean into the space, changing how your upper and lower teeth align. This misalignment can lead to food getting trapped in the gap, increasing the risk of decay and gum disease.
